My Bible: reasons to believe in the power of the Bible
‘I work in investment banking. I took time off work for six months because I had a severely trapped nerve in my neck, which was diagnosed as wear and tear. The pain was so severe at times that I wasn’t sure I wanted to go back to work.
‘I saw four specialists, and was disappointed because they say it’s wear and tear, it will go away. I felt all they were telling me I could find on Google (which I am sure is not the case). I thought, I couldn’t do that in my job, we pinpoint how bad it can get by defining worst-case scenarios with a level of certainty, and I thought my specialists were rather vague. It got me really upset.
‘This morning I woke up and I was really, really upset about it again. I don’t want this to stop me being me. I was pacing up and down the stairs. Then I read Philippians 4.7, which says, “And God’s peace, which is far beyond human understanding, will keep your hearts and minds in union with Christ Jesus.”
‘It put me at ease but also scared me because I thought my rant could upset God and He might give me something to really worry about but, God knows that my rant is just my frustration, and won’t punish me. He sees my heart and knows I desperately love him.
‘That makes me feel somewhat better, that somebody’s listening. That’s the key thing.’
