I keep coming back to John 6.67–68

My Bible: reasons to believe in the power of the Bible

‘I keep coming back to John 6.67–68 where Jesus has been teaching and people are finding it hard to understand and lots of his peripheral followers are falling away. He said to his disciples, “Do you want to leave me as well?” and Peter says, “To whom would we go? You have the words of eternal life?”

‘It’s like he realises that it isn’t about Jesus becoming a big celebrity. It’s about him and his connection to God, that brings out this teaching that leads to life.

‘At times when faith is wavering a bit, I come back to this verse. I’m not a very religious person really. I like to be in the world, but not of it. I surround myself with people who don’t think exactly like I do. I enjoy the company of people who have different views. But that exposes you to different ways of thinking. Even reading the newspapers can do that. So, this verse always helps to bring the focus back.

‘Re-focusing on Jesus as a person and what he modelled, brings my focus back into the truth of faith.’
