I have had four strokes

My Bible: reasons to believe in the power of the Bible

‘I have had four strokes. The first one was 16 years ago after my late wife died and the last one was in February 2023. I was in hospital for six months.

‘I love my garden. There are four steps from the kitchen to the path and I sit there and do the weeding. If I didn’t do that, I would sit indoors all day.

‘The Lord’s Prayer from Matthew 6.9–13 has kept me going. It means so much to me. It doesn’t matter where I am or what I’m doing, everything seems OK when I pray it, even if it isn’t. I say it many times a day.

‘Today the stairlift was broken and everything seemed to go wrong, but the stairlift will sort itself out. The Lord’s Prayer gives me perspective.

‘Even though I have had a lot to deal with, I have kept going, and it’s the Lord’s Prayer that keeps me going. I don’t feel alone when I say it, even though I have been on my own since my wife died 17 years ago.’
